Let’s be honest; there’s no way you can keep your business running without a space to do it in. Your home office may have worked in the early days, but your company has gone beyond that. No amount of feeling sorry for yourself is going to change what needs to happen. Wasting time on the old place is only going to hold you back. The main worry is that you’ll lose your current customers. You’re still building a name for yourself, and every customer counts. It may be that you have yet to build a loyal clientele. If that’s the case, your old customers are more likely to head to the closest business like yours, rather than track you down. Make sure people know where you’ve gone! Put signs in the windows of your old premises, and make an announcement on social media. Then, offer an incentive for finding your new space. Money off, or loyalty bonuses, should ensure you don’t lose any custom. Plus, you stand to get new ones in your new premises. It’s win, win!
It’s also important to find a space you know you can work with in the long term. Don’t end up in the same position again. If size was the problem, pick the largest space you can afford. You need to be able to expand your business without worry. If the issue was a rent one, aim to sign as long a lease as possible. That way, you know you have the space for a set price and time. Then, think about technicalities such as a moving company. The more planning you put in place, the sooner you can get the move underway. And, time is of the essence in business. The less time you’re closed, the better.
It’s also important to make sure your colleagues are happy. It’s not only you who has to work in the new space, remember! It may be worth taking key colleagues to viewings with you. Having the support of your team is essential in any decision you make.
